Table Game Spotlight Baccarat
Aug 11, 2016 NEWS
Baccarat can be traced way back to 1490s, when the game was first introduced in France after arriving from Italy. The name 'Baccarat' is a French version of the Italian Baccarat which signifies the zero point value of face cards. Baccarat was first introduced in Las Vegas in 1959.
Initially, Baccarat was considered to be a game of the “whales” and only high rollers were allowed to play. The game was a private affair and was set in a more exclusive setting. A table was set for 14 players manned by 3 dealers. In the 1980’s, the casinos felt the need to introduce the game to average players where all the cards were dealt by one dealer on a Blackjack sized table placed with the rest of the games.
Overview of Baccarat
This is an exciting table game where customers choose to place bets on the Player, the Banker or a Tie. Unlike other games, Baccarat players bet against each other and not the house directly. In turn, the house takes a commission from the client holding the winning Banker's hand. Because of its high winning probability, the game has continued to flourish ever since.
How to Play Baccarat
The house dealer deals two cards each to the Player and the Banker. He then slides the cards to reveal the face value of the cards to the clients starting with the Player hand. Cards with tens and face cards are considered to have zero value while the Ace card carries one point. The rest of the cards hold their face value and the numbers are used to calculate the total value of a hand.
If two cards total more than 10, then the last digit is considered as the value of the hand. For example, if one draws a 9 and 8 then the value of the hand would be 7. Cards totaling 9 is considered to have the highest value which determines the winner. When the first two cards are drawn and one hand happens to total an 8 or 9, then it is considered as a “natural win” and the game is over. Not all draws lead to a natural win and therefore, there are situations where a hand needs to have an additional card drawn.
Baccarat Rules and Strategies
The shoe that usually holds 6 or 8 decks of cards is handled by the house dealer. Before any hand can be dealt, the customers have to place their bets on a Banker hand, Player hand or on a Tie. A player can only draw an additional card when the first two cards total from 0 to 5 and stay when they total to 6 or more.
The banker's hand can only draw an additional card if the first two cards total 0 to 2. If the banker draws a total of 3 to 6 in the first draw, he can draw an additional card depending on the Player's hand total draw. If one chooses to bet on a tie, then there’s not so much he can do and only hope that the game end in a Tie between the Player and Banker.
